Persatuan SLE Malaysia (PSLEM) is a non-profit support group formed in 1994 by concerned doctors and patients to help people suffering from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), a life-long, life-threatening disease that occurs when the patient’s immune system turns against the body's own healthy tissues for reasons that are still unknown.
Any organ can be affected: the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, etc. The disease is difficult to diagnose and can cause tissue damage, organ failure, and even death, if not properly treated. 90% of SLE sufferers are women, mainly in their childbearing years.
